Mode

Mode ("we", "us", "our") operates the Mode mobile application and website at themode.app (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you sign up, we collect your email address and display name. Authentication is handled via magic link (passwordless email login).

Goal and activity data: Goals you create, progress updates you log, streak data, and competition results. This data is core to the Service.

Device information: If you enable push notifications, we store your device push token to deliver notifications. We collect basic device type and platform (iOS, Android, web) for functionality purposes.

Subscription information: Payment processing is handled by RevenueCat and the respective app stores (Apple App Store, Google Play) or Stripe (web). We do not store credit card numbers. We receive subscription status, plan type, and transaction identifiers.

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide and operate the Service (goal tracking, competitions, AI rivals)
To send push notifications and emails you have opted into (rival progress, streak reminders, deadline alerts)
To process subscriptions and manage your account
To generate AI rival behavior using third-party AI services (OpenAI). Goal metadata (title, unit, progress) is sent to generate in-character responses. No personal information (email, name) is sent to AI providers.
To improve the Service and fix bugs

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

Supabase: Database and authentication hosting
RevenueCat: Subscription management
OpenAI: AI rival behavior generation (goal metadata only, no personal data)
Resend: Transactional email delivery
Expo: Push notification delivery
Vercel: Web application hosting

We may also share information when required by law or to protect our rights.

4. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.

5. Your Rights

You can:

Update your display name and notification preferences in the app
Request a copy of your data by emailing us
Request deletion of your account and data by emailing us
Opt out of any notification type via the Profile settings screen

6. Push Notifications & Emails

You can control which notifications you receive (rival progress, inactivity reminders, streak alerts, deadline warnings) in the Profile settings screen. Each type has separate push and email toggles.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

8. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), secure authentication (Supabase Auth), and access controls. No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable precautions to protect your data.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
